On June 4, 2017, Governor John Bel Edwards signed Act 47 of the 2017 Regular Session. This legislation, which originated as Senate Bill 4 by Senator Danny Martiny, became effective upon the Governor’s signature. It is related to examination or certification requirements for investment adviser representatives (IA reps) registered to conduct business in Louisiana. Legislation passed in 2014 imposed the examination/certification requirement on all IA reps, including certain individuals who have been properly registered and conducting securities business for many years. This Act excludes individuals who were registered on or before August 31, 2016 and have been registered in the securities industry for at least 10 years from having to meet the examination/certification requirement.
